Hello, this is Ben with Ben’s pest control and it’s time for another one of our Ben’s pest control podcasts. And today we’re going to do an episode about some of the things I actually did podcasts on earlier this year. And I want to kind of touch base part of this is on rats. And then part of this is on what we discussed as far as trash pickup. And I’m going to tell you that I can’t say with 100% certainty, but we talked about the possibilities of the problems that could be associated with the lack of trash pickup that we had earlier this year. And now here we are in December. And we are seeing a rat problem here in Port St. Lucie, like I have not seen, possibly going back 15 to 20 years. The number of houses that are that have been calling us about having to get treated for for rats is really crazy. I mean, we are not a huge company. But we have been getting calls and calls and houses we’re going into that. Even for inspections that were just finding amazing amounts of signs of rats. And so my belief is and I said this earlier on that if all this trash was allowed to sit around the way it did at times this summer, we were going to experience an uptick in all sorts of things. And here we are now this winter, and we are definitely seeing something that has caused the rats to go crazy. I can tell you from experience right now we have a couple of active jobs going on in the St. Lucie west area, at least a handful. We have jobs going on in Torino tradition, regular Port St. Lucie. And then of course, we almost always seem to have issues in Palm city, but that’s been normal for as long as I’ve been in business here. However, I can’t say palm city is related to the trash, but the St. Lucie County especially Port St. Lucie, I definitely think it has the potential to have a role. And we have a condo association that we have been treating. And even the condo association has said that the amount of complaints they’re getting from homeowners about seeing rats has been through the roof and they’re not sure what to do. They’re debating their options as far as putting additional work into the buildings, possibly increasing the amount of poison that they put around their buildings. I was talking to a gentleman yesterday who was saying that he goes to a store in St. Lucie West and the store, people were telling him that they they were having trouble, they couldn’t go out to their dumpster. And I’ve talked about that in the past that I used to frequent a haircutting place in St. Lucie West, back in the early 2000s. And the people there would tell me they couldn’t go to the dumpster at night. Well, I guess according to this gentleman, some of the the one store that he knows in particular. And of course, I’m not saying any names, because I don’t have this information firsthand. But I have no reason to doubt this gentleman. They were saying how they couldn’t go to their dumpster at night because they were afraid of the rats. We have done. Many, many treatments and the numbers are, are really astronomical. And part of the reason I’m doing this is because we usually see an increase in rat work. But normally, that kicks in really around January when the cold front comes in. We have seen this increase starting at the end of November. And I’m not even sure that I’m sitting here today what’s going to happen as we go into January when the cold weather comes in. And the rats really want to come in for the warmth and possibly to get away from that cold weather. So it is got the potential to be quite a real issue here. I think people need to remember that there are things that they can do, you need to make sure all the trees are trimmed off your roof. any holes in your house the size of a quarter or bigger needs to be sealed up or closed up. One of the houses that we did some ceiling work on for this week. They had a attic fan that was actually through the roof. And the attic fan had this fancy cover over the top and we took the cover off to see if the inside was sealed and the the inside had metal screening. But in the case of this one client and we had shared this picture on our Instagram and Facebook page, the rats actually chewed through the screening so they could get into the attic. So you know you want to make sure everything is sealed. You want to make sure nothing is touching your house. And of course if possible control The garbage outside, so that way you’re not drawing even more rats to your property. And just keep in mind and be prepared because it looks like we could have quite the season for rats here in the Treasure Coast. Now if you think you’ve got rats and you want us to come out, we’ll be happy to give you want to read free 58 Point inspections. You can give us a call at 772-878-1972 I hope you have a great day.
